Stopping a Shipment in the Middle of Transit
In recent years, technology has developed to include the instant communication and transmission of information that makes it possible to manipulate business processes in many ways that just were not possible before. It should almost go without saying that the courier industry has greatly benefited from these advancements. Previously, meticulous planning of shipments could not always account for unexpected issues and delays during the shipping process. But that was before the advent of cell phones, advanced software programs, and GPS (Global Positioning System) units. So what kinds of problems could couriers now encounter that they may not immediately have an answer for without charging you extra? Well, one of these problems is stopping a shipment during mid-transit.
New Jersey courier services will have different solutions to offer depending on the company, and varying fees to boot. How the process will unfold depends upon a variety of factors. Firstly, you have to consider the description of the shipment that is to be stopped. Small packages in large trucks that contain other shipments can easily be taken out of circulation, undelivered, and deposited at the next terminal, later to be sent back to the sender.
However, there are still likely to be fees applicable, since your freight was taking up cargo space that could have otherwise been used for other shipments. Furthermore, the shipment was at least partially processed, loaded, and unloaded; in other words, it was more or less rerouted to be delivered to you rather than its original, intended recipient. Another situation that could occur is if the New Jersey courier service is using an entire truck to delivery your freight and some unforeseen circumstance required that the shipment be stopped from delivery. Since you have already paid for (or are being billed for) the cost of truck, stopping the shipment is not difficult, but do not expect a refund of any kind. You are still required to pay for the time and gas that has been used in the partial route.
In summary, if your business must handle sudden changes or expected, last minute cancellations on a regular basis, be sure you are involved with a courier service that can accommodate such events that happen on-the-fly. You probably already know that your business does not always run as anticipated, and therefore your relationship with your courier should be a top priority if you want to overcome obstacles with a minimum amount of frustration.
